Candle Burning Safety Tips

Before burning any candle, always remove all paper and packaging to avoid fire hazzard. Paper and trimmings will ignite. Place candle on heat -resistant surface away from anything that can catch on fire. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Trim wick(s) to 1/4" for paraffin and 1/4" for soy wax before you light the candle. For a new paraffin candle, to avoid a dancing flame or flickering wick, trim and then light. Extinquish and relight the candle. This is not necessary with soy wax candles. Remove any wick trimmings from the candle. Make sure your wick is centered. A pencil or stylis is helpful in centering the wick. Never place a burning candle in a draft as this will cause smoking. Keep candles away from curtains. Never leave a burning candle unattended or out of sight.

Pillar Candles

Place a pillar candle on a heat resistant candle plate. Follow above instructions for triming wicks etc. Note the diameter (across the top of the pillar). Burning time for pillars is measured in hours by the diameter. For example, if a pillar is 3 inches in diameter, only burn for 3 hours at the time. Then extinquish your candle. This assures that your candle will not drip or gush wax.

Jar Candles

Avoid touching glass jars or metal tins when candles are burning. Hot glass or metal can cause a skin burn. Keep wick(s) centered to avoid heating the glass. Discontinue burning when 1/2" of wax remains in the container. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. This prevents smoking. If soot should occur, wipe the cool container with a dry paper towel. As a rule soy container candles do not usually produce black soot on the jar.

Soy Tart (melts)

Place only one soy tart or traditional tart melt  in an appropriate melter bowl  such as a tart burner with tealite or electric tart melter.  Avoid touching the hot wax. To remove used wax , simply extinquish the heat source and allow to cool down. Place bowl or melter in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes. The left over chilled  wax will slide right out. Never pour hot wax in a trash can.

Votive Candles

Always burn votives in a tight fitting votive holder to avoid gushing wax. Do not move the votive while burning because the votive glass holder may  very hot and can cause a burn. Keep votive wick trimmed to 1/4" to avoid any excess smoke or soot.
